iDose TR Is an Innovative and Long-Lasting Alternative to Prescription Eye Drops.

Difficulty using eye drops, side effects from topical medications, and other challenges may make it difficult to effectively manage your glaucoma through traditional methods. In these situations, the FDA-approved implant iDose TR can be an ideal alternative. This MIGS device consistently delivers medications to help control IOP.

At Oklahoma Eye Surgeons, we deliver cutting-edge treatments to patients seeking advanced care for open-angle glaucoma. We specialize in this innovative procedure, and Dr. Sarkisian was among the first in the world to treat his patients with the iDose implant.

Is iDose TR Right for Me?

Your eye doctor or surgeon may recommend the iDose implant if you have open-angle glaucoma and:

  • You struggle with the daily application of topical medications. This may be due to physical limitations, lifestyle constraints, or forgetfulness.
  • You experience negative side effects from topical treatments. This implant could help you avoid ocular surface irritation or allergic reactions.
  • You are looking for a sustained, longer-term glaucoma management solution that reduces the need for daily medication adherence.

Your ideal glaucoma treatment can be determined during a comprehensive eye exam with Oklahoma Eye Surgeons. During this, we will discuss your eye health, vision needs, and relevant aspects of your overall health history to create your personalized treatment plan.

What to Know About iDose

What is the iDose TR implant?

The iDose TR (travoprost intracameral implant) is a micro-sized titanium device that measures approximately 1.8 mm in length and 0.5 mm in diameter. The implant comes preloaded with travoprost, a prostaglandin (PG) analog often used to help treat glaucoma, which will self-release at a sustained rate over time.

Once implanted, the iDose TR will continuously deliver medications directly into the anterior chamber of the eye. This can effectively lower IOP over an extended period while reducing your need for other pressure-reducing medications.

How long will the medication last?

iDose TR is designed to provide long-term intraocular pressure control. With its advanced sustained-release technology, patients can experience consistent glaucoma management for up to three years, offering a more convenient and effective alternative to daily eye drops.

During your regular medical eye exam, your eye doctor can determine if and when it is time to replace your iDose implant.

What does the procedure involve?

Leading up to your procedure, your eye surgeon will share all the information you need regarding preparation, the implantation process, and your recovery phase. In general, the iDose TR implantation procedure will include:

  • Anesthesia: Your surgeon will begin by administering a local anesthetic to your eye to ensure numbness and promote your comfort.
  • Incision: A micro-incision will be made in your cornea. This provides access to the eye’s anterior chamber, allowing for proper device placement.
  • Implantation: Your surgeon will use a specialized catheter to place the implant. It will be positioned in your eye’s trabecular meshwork and anchored in the scleral tissue.
  • Completion: The incisions are typically self-healing, so no sutures are usually needed.

The entire process is often performed in only a few minutes. As this is a minimally invasive procedure, patients tend to have a relatively fast recovery time and can resume their normal activities within only a few days. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to ensure that their IOP is well-managed.
